AP Chemistry Warm-up #2

Gaseous ammonia is synthesized from nitrogen and hydrogen.

1) Write a balanced chemical reaction:
             N2 + 3H2 ----> 2NH3

2) If you take 355 L of hydrogen gas at 25.0 Celsius and 542 mm Hg and
    combine it with excess nitrogen gas, what is the theoretical yield of
    ammonia?
              542 mm Hg x (1atm / 760. mm Hg) = 0.7132 atm (keep an extra sig. fig.)

              n = PV / RT

              n = ( 0.7132 atm x 355 L) / ( 0.08206 Latm/Kmole x 298.2 K)

              n = 10.35 moles H2(keep an extra sig. fig.)

              10.35 moles H2 x (2 moles NH3 / 3 moles H2) = 6.900 moles NH3

              6.900 moles NH3 x (17.03 g NH3 / 1 mole NH3) = 118 g NH3

3) If the ammonia occupies a 125 L tank at 25.0 Celsius, what is its
     pressure?
